Dakini Dome

Tenley Wallace  http://www.templetribalfusion.com/

Tenley developed a new genre of dance she calls “Temple Tribal Fusion”. This is based on Tribal Belly Dance, yet fused with various ancient lineages of Temple and Sacred Dances. This creates a distinctive modern expression of traditional sacred dance. Tenley teaches classes and workshops in dance, yoga,  and many other modalities to support women to embody their fullest vitality, grace, and strength.  She recently moved back to the Bay Area to continue her studies, teach, and expand her garment business.

She was having some difficulty finding an affordable place to live in a safe, desirable part of town. A longtime friend of hers, that she once sewed yurt covers for, offered his families backyard for her to put up a shelter dwelling.  Tenley is a friend of Asha, founder of Pacific Domes, and sought advice on making an affordable, comfortable dwelling. Asha had an idea for a wool lined, event-lite dome that would be waterproof when painted with thermo-shield.  Tenley was excited to try out the prototype! They installed an elevated floor made from 2x4’s and plywood. Tenley has all of her luscious rugs and sheepskins and furs to make the dome gorgeously cozy.It has been pouring rain in Berkeley, but she has been warm and dry with just one small space heater.

Tenley has lived a nomadic lifestyle for years and the feel of the space really feeds her gypsy soul. She says living in a dome is “psychically and energetically spacious and beautiful.” She loves that she can open the windows to let the breeze in and that the bay window provides gorgeous light, especially at about 11 am and again in the late afternoon.  She feels Asha has really thought of everything to make dome living user friendly and super easy. She loves the wool cover because not only does it insulate heat, it also acts as a sound dampener.

The dome has allowed Tenley to afford rent in a very desirable neighborhood, and offered her the freedom and privacy of her own sacred space while living in community.  Residing in her friends backyard and sharing meals almost every night with them and their children has been a heartwarming blessing for this modern day priestess of dance.
